Algorithm Media at 10: Beyond the Rise
A decade in media and marketing is not accidental. It’s earned. In a world of ever-changing trends, market pressures, and a clutter of media noise, Algorithm Media has done more than exist. It has evolved.
The organization marked a defining milestone in January 2026, celebrating ten years of shaping conversations, building brands, and navigating a growing marketing communication industry in Nigeria What began in 2016 as a bold ambition to transform marketing communications in Nigeria has grown into a respected force within the local market being widely regarded as the leading Media Planning and Buying Agency in the country.
From inception, Algorithm Media was built on clarity of purpose. Its vision, to be the most admired marketing solutions company in Nigeria, has remained a guiding compass, and its mission, to foster strong and consumer-centric partnerships with clients, aligning strategy with their objectives to deliver exceptional results, has shaped not only its client relationships but also its culture and strategic discipline.
When Algorithm Media began its journey, the media landscape looked different. Platforms have shifted. Consumer behaviour has transformed. Data has become louder, more layered and more opinionated. Attention has become scarcer. Yet across these changes, the agency’s commitment to strategy-first thinking has remained constant.
Over the years, Algorithm Media has grown from ambition to authority, building campaigns that resonate, partnerships that endure and a culture that understands that impact is not measured by activity or alone awards, but by our client’s commercial results. Ten years later, the celebration is not just about longevity, but influence driven by performance and sustained relevance.
The anniversary event, held on the 30th of January 2026, was mind blowing. It was a convergence of clients, collaborators, industry peers and the support behind the work. It was a moment to acknowledge the people who have shaped the journey and the ecosystem that continues to fuel it.
Speaking at the event, The Founder/Chairman Mr Seni Adetu recasted the “journey so far” and expressed optimism about the road ahead. He shared that he looked forward to Algorithm Media not only continuing to thrive within Nigeria but also extending its impact beyond its borders, helping to shape the industry Pan-Africa and nurture the next generation of marketing communications talent through structured development initiatives.
That forward-looking stance was reinforced by Mr. Tom Ilube CBE, Non-Executive Director at WPP Global (our global partner), who observed that the next decade would not reward the biggest, the oldest, or the most traditional. Advantage, he noted, would increasingly favour those able to think faster, decide earlier and move with confidence while others hesitate, and at the centre of that shift is Artificial Intelligence.’ His remarks aligned strongly with the celebratory theme: Beyond the Rise.
If the first decade was about building credibility and capability, the next promises expansion and deeper impact. The future of media agencies demands intelligence powered by insight, creativity backed by data, and storytelling that cuts through the clutter.
Algorithm Media enters its second decade not as a company celebrating the past, but as one accelerating into the future. Ten years is not the finish line but proof of foundation, and foundations are built for scale.
The Visionary’s Journey: Embracing Uncertainty as the Path to Innovation
When Algorithm Media was founded in 2016, the ambition was simple but uncompromising: to build a marketing solutions company that would be admired not for noise, but for substance. I believed Nigeria deserved an agency rooted in strategic clarity, consumer understanding and measurable outcomes. We believed brands deserved more than execution but also partnership.
Ten years later, as we marked this milestone on January 30, 2026, I found myself reflecting not only on what we have achieved, but on what we have protected. In an industry that moves at relentless speed, it is easy to chase visibility but harder to sustain relevance. Our journey has been defined by the discipline to choose the latter.
The early years required courage. We entered a competitive landscape where established names already commanded attention and influence. From the outset, we knew that longevity would not be determined by size alone, but by competence and by how intelligently we thought, how decisively we acted and how consistently we delivered value to (particularly) our esteemed clients. That conviction shaped a deliberate decision to bring in expatriates and seasoned marketing professionals with international experience to help lead, manage and influence our operations locally. We were intentional about embedding global best practices into our DNA, not as an aspiration but as a standard. It was never simply about competing. It was about building trust through demonstrated competence and raising the bar for what marketing excellence could look like in our market.
As the media ecosystem evolved, we evolved with it, meeting accelerated digital transformation, fragmented audiences, and technology-driven engagement not with hesitation, but with intent. Rather than resist the shift, we leaned into it. We invested deliberately in intelligence, deepened our analytical capabilities, and strengthened strategic partnerships that expanded both our reach and our relevance. Most importantly, we built a team that could think ahead of the curve rather than behind it. Today, Algorithm Media is widely perceived as the leading Media Planning and Buying Agency in Nigeria with arguably the largest portfolio of FMCG’s and international clients.
Mr. Tom Ilube CBE, a Non-Executive Director of the Global WPP Board(our partners), captured the urgency of the future when he observed that the next decade will reward those who think faster, decide earlier and move with confidence. He pointed to Artificial Intelligence as central to this shift. I agree. The agencies that thrive will be those that embrace intelligence not as a trend, but as a capability woven into their DNA.
The theme of our anniversary, Beyond the Rise, is deeply personal to me. Rising is important. It signals progress, but staying elevated requires constant reinvention. It requires humility to learn and courage to lead. It requires clarity of purpose in moments of uncertainty. Most importantly, it says to me that beyond success, we must strive for significance, a true platform for sustaining this achievement and building a lasting legacy.
Finally, as I have said repeatedly, it is not what we have achieved in 10 years I am most proud of (oh , I am certainly chuffed by God’s goodness in getting us here), but I repeat it is not what we have achieved I’m most proud of, but with who we have achieved this. I am proud of my Staff, Our Clients, Our Venture Partners – the amazing WPP, the collaborating regulators, etc. Thank you all.
The next chapter will demand sharper thinking and deeper innovation. It will require us to remain students and leader simultaneously. Ten years ago, we built a foundation. Today, that foundation is strong thankfully. Now, we look beyond the rise.
